68 year old gardening woman, newly diagnosed

Hello and many thanks for this forum!
I'm Nancy, a retired landscape architect who worked in nurseries and greenhouses before going back to grad school. Most recently I spent 6 years housesitting and caretaking a 20 acre North Carolina mountain property and building an organic community garden for the owner.

I've never had health insurance and hardly ever sick except for a couple bouts of flu over the years, one time with pneumonia about 18 years ago (though lots of strep throat or tonsillitis in my teen years).

The only reason I got diagnosed now with Cardiomyopathy and LBBB (left bundle branch block) is that I got a new patient WELLNESS CHECKUP for starting MEDICARE after age 65, but only in the last couple months had an appointment. I told them I was a bit mad at myself for getting out of breath and lightheaded walking up the steep hills (I thought it was my LUNG power) and then collapsing in a chair after working in the garden for a couple hours to "recover".. I thought it was "old age" creeping in. I guess I fit right in the profile of Women with Cardiomyopathy after reading up everywhere the last couple weeks!

SO, echoacardiogram showed EF 40%. NY Class II. I have a cardiac MRI scheduled for April 23 and follow up with cardiologist on April 28 to find out his assessment of WHY. I think he is leaning toward a congenital reason because I have never done drugs etc... and my grandmother died of a heart attack.

The cardiologist showed me the probabilities of my 5 year survival rate if I take or don't take Beta blocker (Toprol, 25 mg at the moment) and ACE inhibitor (Lisinopril 10mg) (90% versus 60%) from the Seattle Heart Failure Study. He got my attention.

I instantly came home and started googling "integrative cardiology" to find out how to retrieve that other 10% probability of still being here in 5 friggin' years! I don't even have a grandchild yet, AND I'm writing a book - got too much living to still do.

For an old hippie who doesn't much like Big Pharma, I have to admit to being amazed at how much better I already feel from only a couple DAYS on the beta blocker and ACE inhibitor ( grin - I've been pretty chemically sensitive all my life, which is why I don't drink or smoke). Then a week later I started on whatever I had in the house from Willy's Protocol. I've now created a detailed Excel file of my cardiac Health LOG based upon the WITSEL PROTOCOL to share with my cardiologist. Thankfully he mentioned that he is willing to help me in whatever way I am interested in persuing.
oh, forgot to mention, I've been a balanced healthy eater for many years, though I do like chocolate and cookies... I've been off of white sugar for years but still use evaporated cane juoce or honey? Do I need to go totally to )0 sweets in my life? I"ve also recently been not doing any wheat after reading the Wheat Belly book (yep i got that abdominal fat).

I would like to show him a more complete concept that includes the STEP 10, Maintenance and how to determine when to change over from the high doses to the maintenance doses etc.

I did also find two very new books written by INTEGRATIVE CARDIOLOGISTS here in the States who both teach at Universities (GRIN - I might be able to turn my Doc into an integrative guy with Willy's excellent Step-by-Step write up from 1998!). The only thing newer than Willy's protocol that has been added by these two books 2011, 2013 is the inclusion of D-RIBOSE.
THANK YOU! Nancy

Welcome on this forum

EJF of 40% is not realy bad, we had patients with 5, 10 ad 15%

Yes, they survived :D

Are you using supplements from my protocol? If yes what dosis per day? And I want the name of manufacturers of these supplements in a private message, not on the forum that is not allowed in The Netherlands

So sorry I don't know where you want me to post so that next question is useful to others ( I thought I HAD sent the first meesage to the list, apologies). I also am not sure what is not allowed to be posted onlist in the Netherlands? just the product brand of the supplements? I sent this by private mail already, but maybe you didn't see it? it was in an excel file I can make a text version if that would be helpful.

By the way I Am taking most of your Protocol now, not quite at your doses yet.

I would like some help with the reference ranges, Willie,
I have an appointment this afternoon with the cardiologist to find out the
results of my MRI last week. I know my EF is rather mild, but I want it
to be GREAT.

I would love to know if you have a list of the reference ranges for each of
the supplements in your Heart Failure Protocol that I can give to my
cardiologist?

I don't know how long I should be taking any of these? Wow - calculated it
all out and it is about $150 a month. Kind of out of my budget so I'll be
happy to be able to reduce some of them as soon as i can.

THANKS! THANK you, again
Nancy

Willie - yep this is a lot! but it all started with your 10 steps protocol and then I added two other cardiologists work and had some of these in my cupboard.

HEART FAILURE Your STEP 6 and per Dr. Stephen T. Sinatra MD FACC, Integrative Cardiology (2011)
OMEGA 3’s 1 gm 1X Stimulates production of nitric oxide, relaxes vascular smooth muscle; counteracts atherosclerotic plaques, also sign. lowers blood pressure. Inhibits platelet aggregation, anti-inflammatory

HEART FAILURE Your STEP 7
SELENIUM 200 mcg 1X I had also been taking this occasionally because it is a known deficiency in early grey hair which runs in my family ( 8) but doesn't seem to have been doing me much good).

HEART FAILURE Your STEP 8 AND my ANTI-AGING PLAN
DHEA 25 mg 1X (which incidentally I had finally begun for myself months ago before this diagnosis for all it's known anti-aging reasons: "Improved DHEA levels have been correlated with improved sense of well being, reduced body fat and improved skin tone and moisture, increased sex drive (esp. women), improved immunity, enhanced memory, and increased bone density [including Urinary Incontinence Due To Loss Of Urinary/Bladder Tone]. Numerous studies have proven great correlations between DHEA deficiency and a variety of diseases and symptoms . For example, decreased levels of DHEA predisposes women to higher probability of breast cancer, autoimmune diseases, osteoporosis, and Alzheimer's diseases. A Study reported in the prestigious journal Science in August 2002 directly correlates increased blood DHEA level to longevity. " http://www.womenlivingnaturally.com/product.php?id=82

OTHER HEART FAILURE PROTOCOLS and ANTI-AGING PLAN Continued
VIT. D3 2 IU 1X per DR. Joel K. Khan, MD, The Holistic Heart BOOk Research shows Low Levels of D are assoc with CHF and cancer. Recommends average 5,000 IU until blood levels achieve 50 to 80 ng/dl.
MULTI 75 w/B’s 1X ditto basic foundation nutrition to balance the above...

MEMORY/ANTI-AGING/SLEEP
VIT. B-6 200 mg 1X known to improve dream recall
ZINC 50 mg 1X co-factor with B-6 for dream recall and memory...
MELATONIN 3 mg 1X Melatonin works with other antioxidants to improve the overall effectiveness of each antioxidant.[14] Melatonin has been proven to be twice as active as vitamin E, believed to be the most effective lipophilic antioxidant.[47] Research has supported the anti-aging properties of melatonin. I ONLY USE THIS SHORT TERM maybe two weeks at a time.

HAIR LOSS
BIOTIN 5 gm 1X well I try this every now and then for my long time thinning hair... it never seems to work, but maybe a higher dose along with ZINC as a co-factor that I didnt' know about before might help. Apparently Iron has to be checked too, but my ferritin is fine.

The last two, Cardio-Plus and Cataplex B are natural blends of bovine heart and liver extracts along with a little Niacin (raises HDL)and stuff that my sisters acupuncturist/chiroprator told her to send me. I'll only use them up and stop.

THANKS for your insights,
Nancy

I will focus on these supplements

http://translate.google.nl/translate?hl ... index1.php

First the four most important ones

Q10, acetyl-l-carnitine, magnesium and d-ribose

Stop MSM when you run out, you are not ill enough to get benefits

Increase D-ribose to 3 x 5 gr

Stop l-carnitine when you run out and change it for acetyl-l-carnitine 3 x 500mg. Take carnitine on an empty stomac

increase Q10 to 2 x 100mg

When do you have your next check-up of EJF% ?

Good Morning! this is great, Willie.
I was just out of MSM so I won't rebuy it. I hadn't noticed that I had bought the wrong version of Carnitine. I didn't realize there was a difference until I just now read about them. THANKS! smiles - I like the memory enhancing capacity of the Acetyl version.

My next echo is in 9 months, but I could ask for earlier if you think that would be better? I was great to read some of the testimonials on your link... some of them noted such improvement in only a few months! SMILES and cheers,
Nancy

OH! perfect timing! I'm just taking off for the doctors right now, and will ask about both. I don't even know what pro-BNP is - grin - but undoubtedly Dr. Kline will.
THANK you so so much
