Hi Willy,

I looked over the causes, etc. of RLS, and he does have that but hypoglycemia may also be the cause of many of his symptoms. I will get him checked for that. It does run in our family.

I was looking up natural cures for hypoglycemia and found that chromium picolinate, B6, zinc and cinnamin are a few of the supplemnts that will help with this besides cutting back on sugar and improving his eating habits.

Would he be able to take some of these supplements if needed, along with the protocol? I know he isn't supposed to take vitamin K which is recommended.

Thanks so much,
Verona

Hi Willy,

He gets worse at night and can't sleep and also has headaches. I took him to a naturepath doctor yesterday and he has him on a different diet and some helpful supplements to help him sleep and get rid of the anxiety.

He suggested to eat more quantities of darker green vegetables instead of meat, though. I thought lots of vegetables weren't good for cardiomyopathy patients. He seemed to think they were alright.

Thanks,
Verona

This is very difficult for me to diagnose

If Shane suffers from a classic depression he should use an antidepressive medication

Normally depressed people do not feel well in the mornings and better in the eveaning

Get him diagnosed by a doctor, if I know what is wrong with him I can make suggestions

Hi Corrij,

I hope your holiday was great!

I have a question about taking Ubiquinol instead of the CoQ10. I have Shane taking the Ubiquinol because it remains in the bloodstream much longer than CoQ10. The Ubiquinol pills are 100 mg. Should I decrease the dose that was recommended for the CoQ10 which was 200mg a day since the Ubiquinol is more effective?

Thank you,
Verona

Hello Verona,

Thank you for asking, our vacation was great :D
The best is to take also 200 mg a day, so the amount is the same but the benefit is greater

greetings,
Corrij

Hi Corrij,

There are a few different types of magnesium supplements. Which one would be best for the heart? Possibly Magnesium Orotate or Taurate?

Thank you!

Hi Verona,

The best is magnesium aspartate :D
The role of magnesium in normal heart function is tremendous. Profound magnesium deficiency causes muscles to underfunction, malfunction or not function at all. Several hundred of your body’s most important biochemical reactions depend on this mineral. "The synthesis of all proteins, vital cell nuclear materials such as nucleic acids and nucleotides, lipids, and carbohydrates require ionized magnesium (Mg ++)." (Williams, SR Nutrition and Diet Therapy, Seventh Ed, St. Louis: Mosby, 1993, pp 230-233) Even most, ah, "healthy" adults fail to get the US RDA of magnesium, which ranges from 280 to 400 mg for adults. These figures are elemental weights: just the corn, not the can. Most magnesium supplements are compounds of magnesium with something else. The weight of the "something else" is often obscured in dosage recommendations. That is why Melvyn Werbach, M.D. cites studies that advocate daily dosages of 2,000 mg of magnesium per day for CHF. (Textbook of Nutritional Medicine. Tarzana, CA:Third Line Press, 1999, pp 273 and 275.) The elemental quantity is significantly lower than that. Green vegetables and whole grains contain quite a bit of magnesium. Pinto beans, almonds, and especially figs are oustanding food sources.

Of the oral supplements, magnesium aspartate or magnesium orotate may have the best chance of getting into cardiac muscle cells. These forms of magnesium are rarely found on store shelves. Your doctor may be able to have them compounded for you by a cooperative pharmacist, or you might find them with an internet search. Intravenous administration of magnesium may be necessary in more serious cases of congestive heart failure. Have a test ordered to check serum magnesium. Most doctors don’t. It is even better to check myocardial magnesium (Textbook, p 275). This is because the amount of magnesium in the heart muscle cells may be considerably lower than in the blood.

greetings,
Corrij

Hi Corrij,

Shane's stomach was getting upset and he was extremely nauseated after taking his supplements, even on a full stomach lately. I read it may be the type of magnesium. I bought the magnesium aspartate for him. He felt okay after taking it yesterday.

Thank so much! :D

Hi Corrij,

Glad that your bursitis is better! Doesn't sound like too much fun.

Is there ever a point where Shane may not have to take any more prescription drugs?

I just don't like the thought of him being on them for so long.

He is doing very well, but still they have not checked his EF since he was diagnosed. They won't do that until around February. They wanted to increase his med doses first, which is common. They said from the beginning they would slowly increase them.

Thank you!

Hi Verona,

Yes there is indeed a point when Shane can reduce his prescription drugs, but the only one who can prescribe this is the cardiologist.
When Shane`s health is improving a lot, his EF is higher then 50% and he is feeling very well, I assume that the doctor prescribe a different amount of the medicine`s.

For this moment he still needs them, so...........

Corrij

Hi Corrij,

Does your husband still need to take some meds also? How is he doing?

It would be great to not have to worry about side effects and expenses, etc.

Take care!

Hi Verona,

My husband is doing great, he stil takes his bloodthinners and some diuretic, thats all :D

He is also a diabetic and this is a bad combination. So we don`t take any risk.

There are people who don`t need medications anymore and Shane is a young adult so give it some time.

In the meantime, I understand your fear about the side effects, and I don`t love medication eather, but in the beginning of his cardiomyopathy, and at this point, they keep him alive.

greetings,
Corrij

By the way, how is Verona doing? Your always busy with Shane, but there is a Verona also :D
