Idopathic Cardiomyopathy (5/09) - No Transplant for Me
Hello Corry,
We are all so thankful for your quick replies, and for the hope your site gives us. Following are answers to the questions you posed:
YOUR ARE DIAGNOSED WITH?
I was diagnosed with Idiopathic Cardiomyopathy on May 7, 2009. My husband rushed me to the hospital and they determined this after a 3-day stay. My problem was breathlessness that night, whenever I layed down. I met with the surgeon from the ER department for 3 weeks and was not satisfied with his service after my release. My second Cardiologist, Dr. Young, tested the medications and told me there was nothing more he could do with me. My health had not improved. Dr. Young referred me to a heart failure/cardiac transplant doctor Dr. Hoagland. I told Dr. Hoagland I was not ready for a transplant, so he referred me upstairs, to Dr. Athill, an electrophysiologist.
Dr. Athill is ready to implant a Defribulator in my chest and provide Dr. Hoagland with some of the testing necessary to perform a transplant. After finding your site last night, I am going to put the defribulator and transplant idea on hold for as long as it takes.
YOUR CURRENT CONDITION
I have swelling in my legs and ankles, am out of breath often, and have trouble breathing at times.
EJECTION FRACTION
I'm not sure what this means, but I think it's at 25%.
CAUSE OF YOUR DISEASE
Unknown.
BLOOD PRESSURE
100/70
POSSIBLE NUTRITIONAL RESTRICTIONS
Salt and water I guess
MEDICATIONS
I am also Diabetic, was diagnosed 2 years ago as a Type II.
Januvia, 100mg, 1 tablet daily
Metformin, 500mg, 1 tablet daily
Glipizide, 5mg, 1 tablet daily
Carvedilol (generic for Coreg), 3.125mg, 1 table twice daily Furosemide (generic for Lasix), 40mg daily Lupin, 2.5mg, 1 tablet daily Spironolactone, 12.5mg day, 1 tablet daily
ARE YOU FREQUENTLY TIRED
Yes.
DO YOU USE LOTS OF SUGAR
I switched to sweeteners, but eat a fair amount of fruit.
CAN YOU SKIP A MEAL OR EAT THREE HOURS LATER WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS?
Yes. I am very slim and eat only 2 meals a day. 5'9.5" at 130 lbs. Female.
Thank you,
Nicole Lee

Hello Nicole,
At first a warm welcome on this forum
Fot the other people on this forum, you will start with the chromium, MSM and the acetyl- carnitine.
Let me know when youre having the carnitine, so I can give you some explanation how to take this amino-acid.
greetings,
Corrij

Hello Nicole,
The firts step is the MSM and the Chromium, so don`t start taking the carnitine yet, we add this in a week or two.
Start with the chromium and the MSM, build up the MSM slowly.MSM gives you more energy en it helps oxygen transport.
The best time to take it is with your meals and not before bedtime, because it gives you energy, and that doesn`t help you to get to sleep.
It would be best to take the carnitine on a empty stomach!
For instance the carnitine half an hour before breakfast or two hours after breakfast.
Wich form of carnitine do you have?
greetings,
Corrij

Didn't Need Carnitine Yet
I didn't think I needed the Carnitine yet, as indicated in your earlier post. So far everything is in pill form.

No capsules?
Is it L-carnitine or acetyl-L-carnitine?
Acetyl-L-Carnitine is the acetyl ester of L-carnitine.
Acetyl-L-carnitine is also known as acetyl-carnitine, L-acetycarnitine, acetylcarnitine, acetyl levocarnitine, ALC and ALCAR.
Acetyl-L-carnitine is a delivery form for both L-carnitine and acetyl groups.
